LAHORE: A fire broke out in a multi-storey plaza on Jail Road on Wednesday, leaving dozens of people trapped in the building, who were later rescued by Rescue 1122 teams.

The fire erupted on the 8th floor of the 12-storey Landmark Plaza that houses many offices, flats and shops.

As per initial reports the fire erupted because of short-circuiting of electricity wires in the building.

An official says that the residents of the building immediately called Rescue 1122 after spotting dense clouds of smoke billowing out of a portion of the plaza.

He says three special vehicles of the emergency services reached the site, along with trained firefighters and rescuers, who launched the rescue operation.

The firefighters managed to curtail the blaze to the 8th floor and rescued the trapped people.

A Rescue 1122 spokesperson says that the rescue teams controlled the fire, preventing it from spreading to other floors of the plaza and adjacent buildings in a 30-minute operation.
