KARACHI: The Karachi Bar Association (KBA) on Thursday requested sessions judges to exempt advocates from wearing coat in courtrooms for 10 days due to ongoing extreme heat and weather conditions in the metropolis.

In a statement, KBA General Secretary Ikhtiar Ali Channa requested for a 10-day exemption from the requirement of wearing black blazers while appearing in courts, due to the extreme weather conditions and ongoing heatwave affecting the city.

“As you are aware, Karachi is currently experiencing unprecedented heatwaves, with temperatures soaring to levels that significantly impact comfort and health,” the KBA said.

“The intense heat presents substantial challenges for advocates who are required to wear formal coats while fulfilling their duties in courtrooms. The combination of the high temperatures and the formal attire creates an environment that can lead to severe discomfort and, in some cases, health risks such as heat exhaustion and dehydration.”

General Secretary Channa requested that the court consider permitting advocates to appear in courts without wearing coats for 10 days from Thursday on.

The city is experiencing extremely hot and humid weather for the past many days, testing patience of people visiting offices during daytime.
