LAHORE, Sept 2: Inspector General of Punjab Police Javed Iqbal transferred and posted three district police officers after Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif interviewed seven senior police officers for five vacant posts throughout the province here on Friday.

Sources privy to the development told Dawn that SSPs Muhammad Faisal Rana, Sarfraz Ahmad Falki, Muhammad Ishaq Jehangir, Ehsan Tufail, Ahmad Jamal, Rana Ahmad Hassan and Rajanpur DPO Sohail Zafar Chattha were called for interviews at 180-H Model Town around 3:30pm.

They said the chief minister, who was accompanied by the home secretary, the IGP and his deputy secretary law and order, held interviews for the slots of Gujranwala City Police Officer and posts of DPOs of Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Pakpattan and Sialkot.

After the chief minister gave his node, the IGP appointed Sohail Zafar Chattha as Rahim Yar Khan DPO in place of Sohail Habib Tajik, who has proceeded abroad to attend a course, and SSP Rana Ahmad Hassan as Rajanpur DPO in Chattha’s place.

SSP Ehsan Taufail, who was interviewed along with SSP Muhammad Ishaq Jehangir for the post of Gujranwala CPO, is likely to be appointed as new Gujranwala city police chief. He was interviewed twice by the chief minister.

SSPs Faisal Rana, Sarfraz Falki and Ahmad Jamal were considered for the vacant posts of Sialkot and Pakpattan.

Mr Falki, who is serving as Punjab Special Branch SSP Administration, appeared in second such interview.

However, sources said, SSP Abdul Qadir Qayyum was not called for the interview for some unknown reason.
