ROME: Reigning Italian champions Napoli are continuing their ambitious mercato with the 21-million-euro ($24.6 million) acquisition of Serbian goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic on loan with an option to buy.

The 28-year-old Serbian international has played for Torino since 2020, making 158 appearances in all competitions.

“Napoli announces that they had acquired Vanja Milinkovic-Savic from Torino on loan with an option to buy,” the club posted in a statement on Saturday evening.

The Serb will be competing with Napoli’s first-choice goalkeeper, Italian Alex Meret, also 28.

Napoli have been the most active Italian side this summer, recruiting eight players, including Kevin De Bruyne and Dutchman Sam Beukema.
