JEDDAH: The Sixth Conference of Islamic Foreign Ministers, described as a new phase in Islamic solidarity, covered all the issues of concern to the Muslim world and called for the expulsion of Israel from the United Nations. The conference concluded early this morning [July 16]. A 24-page communique … said that it crowned the efforts of the previous conferences.

The conference, at the opening session of which [PLO] Chairman Yasser Arafat was also present, condemned the States that extend military, economic and human support to Israel. It called on member States to sever their political, cultural and economic relations with Israel and to expel the Zionist state from the UN. … …[T]he conference adopted a resolution in support of the Arab right to Palestine. … …[T]he issues of Jerusalem, Palestine and the Middle East were the dominant theme of the conference. … …[I]n London, a British Foreign Office spokesman said that Britain will oppose any attempt to expel or suspend Israel from the [UN]. … …[G]rand finale of the conference came this morning when the joint communique was adopted.
