KARACHI: Parts of Karachi experienced mild tremors on Sunday as a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck the city in the evening.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake originated at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres beneath the surface, with its epicentre located near Quaidabad, a densely populated area of the city.

The tremors were felt at around 5:33pm and there were no reports of injuries or structural damage.

However, panic gripped the affected localities as soon as residents felt the ground shaking for a few seconds.

A Rescue 1122 official said that no emergency response was needed. “It was a very mild earthquake. So far, no damage or casualties have been reported,” the official said.

No aftershocks were reported following the initial tremor, and authorities have advised residents to stay calm but alert, he said and added the emergency services remained on standby, but as of now, life in the city has returned to normal following the brief interruption.
