In my school days, I usually faced the problem of the colour pencil box becoming tattered in no time, so I would put my colour pencils in one of the schoolbag’s pockets, and you can understand very well how much mess these pencils make inside the bag.

And this is why today I am making a roll up felt pencil case for all those kids facing the similar problem — by the way it looks so artistic!

Things you need:

  1. One felt sheet (12-inches height and 8-inches width)

  2. A pencil

  3. 12-inches scale

  4. Scissors or paper cutter

  5. One button with four holes

  6. String (six to seven-inches)

Directions:

  1. Flatten the felt sheet horizontally, picture2.

  2. Divide the felt sheet in four equal parts from the eight-inch side (i.e. the width), picture 3. Repeat the step at the bottom so that the markings align with each other.

  3. Now align the marks at both edges horizontally, picture 4.

  4. It is always good to take help from an elder especially when a step involves the use of scissors. Our next step involves cutting either with the scissors or with the paper cutter.

  5. Leaving 1.5cm from the point of starting, you have to cut 1.5cm, horizontally leaving a space of 0.5cm between the next cut until you reach the end, picture 5.

  6. Repeat the first step on all the three equal parts that you marked earlier, pictures 6 and 7.

  7. When you are done on all four parts, pull the cuts, picture 8. Leave it aside.

  8. Insert the string in the holes of the button (from behind the button, taking it out from the other, insert the other side of the string in the third hole, take it out from the fourth hole and tie two tight knots, pictures 9 and 10.

  9. Mark the middle of the felt from any side and make a small hole to insert the string, pictures 11, 12 and 13.

  10. Insert the colour pencils one by one in all four cuts, pictures 14 and 15.

  11. Roll up and tie a knot.
