LAHORE: Police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Sanam Javed after she appeared for a trial at Kot Lakhpat Jail on Monday.

Sanam Javed and some other PTI women leaders, facing trial in different cases, had appeared at the Kot Lakhpat Jail for trial and attendance.

After the trial attendance, sources close to the developments say, a DSP along with his vehicle was present on the jail premises and offered to drop women outside jail – which is around one kilometer to reach the main road outside the jail.

They say the DSP did not drop them at the main road but drove ahead, where more police vehicles were present. A scuffle took place there and the policemen dragged the women and bundled them into their vehicles, the sources said.

After the incident was reported on social media, sources claimed that the police released all other women but got Sanam Javed arrested in a Feb 8, 2025 case. According to reports, the sources said, some more clauses may be added in the FIR and she is expected to be presented before the ATC court on Tuesday (today).

The case was registered against her and other PTI leaders including Aliya Hamza, Nazia Baloch, Intizar Panjotha and others for holding a rally and blocking the road outside Aiwan-i-Adal. Sanam Javed has been detained at the Lytton Road women police station.
