KARACHI: A young woman was found murdered near the Azeempura graveyard along the Malir river on Saturday and doctors said she was raped, police said.

Sharafi Goth SHO Arshad Awan said that the police received information through Madadgar-15 about the presence of a woman’s body in the graveyard.

He said that a police patrol arrived at the scene and shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a post-mortem examination.

The area SHO said that no identification papers were found. The use of a biometric verification system also showed that she had no computerised national identity card, he added.

A name, ‘Munsif’, was inscribed on her left hand with henna, he said, adding that it appeared she was strangled with the help of her dupatta.

At the JPMC, the doctors carried out the autopsy and reserved the cause of her death.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that initial findings of the post-mortem examination were suggestive of sexual violence.
