ISLAMABAD: The capital saw the highest number of Covid-19 cases reported on a single day since April 29 as 441 people were diagnosed with the disease on Thursday. Furthermore, a male patient (70-79), resident of Rawat, succumbed to the disease and the positivity rate jumped to 10.5pc.

Officials of the capital administration said that 509 virus cases were reported on April 29. Between April 29 and Aug 4, over 400 cases of Covid-19 on a single day were reported in the capital only twice, they said, adding 427 cases were reported on April 30 and 431 cases were reported on May 1.

During the last 24 hours, 4,179 tests were conducted in the capital for detection of the virus among people, they said.

Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi district 119 people contracted Covid-19 and one patient passed away. However, a decline was seen in the positivity ratio as it dropped to 8.9pc from 18pc recorded on Aug 4. The deceased was identified as Mumtaz Hussain, 59, resident of Khanna Road. He was brought to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU) on Aug 4.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 1,486 active patients. As many as 199 patients are in hospitals, including 18 who arrived from other districts, and 1,287 patients are home isolated.

As many as 27 patients arrived from cantonment areas, 26 from Potohar Town and 32 from Rawal Town. As many as two patients arrived from Taxila, seven from Gujar Khan, four from Kahuta and one patient each came from Kallar Syedan, Kotli Sattian and Murree. Six patients arrived from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), four patients arrived from Islamabad, three each from Chakwal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two from Abbottabad.

As many as 199 patients are admitted in city hospitals, including 35 in Holy Family Hospital, 32 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 63 in RIU, three in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, 57 in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH), two patients each at Hearts International Hospital and Attock Hospital, one at Bilal Hospital and four patients at Begum Akhter Sultana Trust Hospital.

There are four patients on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 121 on oxygen support and 74 are stable.
