A female student from the Sindh University (SU) Jamshoro on Thursday was killed after being hit by a university bus within varsity premises.

Shaista Memon was a student in her final year at the physics department at SU.

Students, relatives and members of civil society blocked a section of the old Indus Highway near Liaquat Medical University in protest.

SU vice chancellor Dr Shafi Burfat rushed to the spot and joined the students' protest, which ended after the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police Jamshoro negotiated terms with them.

Anis Memon, the father of the victim, has demanded that a thorough probe into the death of his young daughter.

A case is being lodged at the Jamshoro police station regarding Memon's death, while sources within the SU administration say that the university's contract with its transport provider has been terminated.

Earlier, on Feb 8, in a similar incident, Jehanzeb Arain, a student of the computer science department at SU, was crushed under the wheels of point bus after he fell out of the bus he was travelling in.
