India successfully launched 104 satellites in a single mission on Wednesday, setting what its space agency says is a world record of launching the most satellites at one go.

Of the 104, 101 are foreign satellites to serve international customers as the South Asian nation seeks a bigger share of the $300 billion global space industry.

“This is a great moment for each and everyone of us. Today we have created history,” said project director B. Jayakumar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his congratulations on the launch conducted by the state-run Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) that went off smoothly and was carried live on national TV news channels.

“This remarkable feat by ISRO is yet another proud moment for our space scientific community and the nation,” he said. “India salutes our scientists.”

Modi is bullish on India's space programme and has repeatedly praised the efforts of scientists who three years ago pulled off a low-cost mission to send a probe to orbit Mars that succeeded at the first attempt.

ISRO's low prices attracted international customers to launch 75 satellites last year from Sriharikota in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.

The launch of PSLV-C37 in a single payload, including the Cartosat-2 series and 103 co-passenger satellites, together weighed over 650 kg.

Out of 101 nano satellites, 96 were from the United States and one each from Israel, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.

Thanks DAWN for the prompt reporting of positive news from India. Congrats to all scientists involved. Around $150 million has been earned by launching these satellites for foreign countries. The technical abilities garnered from this project and the confidence of succesful completion will spill over into other areas of the country's economy which is good for a developing country like India. These achievements are a testimony to what ordinary Indians can achieve since the majority of the people that work in ISRO and other organizations are not high flying engineers from IITs/NITs.

A Feb 15, 2017 10:53am

The workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle carried nanosatellites from seven countries when it took off at 9:28 a.m. from Sriharikota, a tiny barrier island in southeastern India. These included 88 from San Francisco-based Planet Labs Inc. as well as others built by companies and universities in Israel, Kazakhstan, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.

ISRO was the last space organization created in south Asia. Today, no one even knows about these space agencies in world. But yes, it's ISRO alone a only alone which has brought the region on the world map. It's ISRO's unique multiple launch bus system on PSLV that made us create this history. 104 sattelittes, hard to believe. We have many countries in this who doesn't even know what a satellite is all about, forget about launching it. Yes, It is the rocket science. Not easy to understand.

Great ...but last launch was equally great though only 20+ satellite..... because one satellite was built by STUDENTS of Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT) Mumbai and I just can't forget the happiness and pride beaming on their faces. I have a friend from IIT Kanpur.

No wonder today IITs of India are considered to be prestigious university all over the world. Many get admissions easily in Top Most Universities of the world.

Congratulations !

Some say why India needs Space program when so many poor people in the country. As you can see the space programs provides jobs for thousands and earn huge revenues from these space launches, this is good for everyone - people, employment, economy and of course the country's international standing - all to serve and make the common man proud. Thank you ISRO and its leadership.

South Asia Feb 15, 2017 12:00pm

@Shahid It is not a white elephant, it requires some attention and nurturing. And ofcourse, some new talent.

@shah G get ur facts right ... no one is capable in south asia in this race

Truth v2 Feb 15, 2017 12:08pm

How many satellites our country has launched totally? :(

VINEETH Feb 15, 2017 12:09pm

The challenge in this mission was not so much about the payload weight as it is commonly misunderstood. Most of those 100+ satellites are tiny nano-satellites weighing less than 10kg each. The aggregate weight of these satellites comes to around 600 kg, less than the primary payload Cartosat-2D which weigh 700 kg. The tricky part of the mission was in timing the ejection of the tiny satellites so that they collided into one another.

Just remembered Abdul Kalam the Indian Scientist President for his scarifying endeavours...the sub continent people are pretty smart if they want to...but there are crazier ones too...who blow themselves up...

Dharmesh jhala Feb 15, 2017 12:11pm

India and Pakistan should open border so no conflict between boundaries and Kashmir, Pakistani should be free to work and settled in India and Indian should be free to work and settled in Pakistan. Only this formula can help to process for both nation and save from future war.

annie Feb 15, 2017 12:12pm

@POTYA .... congratulations ISRO, we are proud of this moment and sucess in future endevours. We are not competing with anyone, instead we are competing ourselves providing good technology and less cost.

Let's work together to remove poverty and help every one to live peacefully to establish way of life based on knowledge.

It's not just about low prices, it's also the quality and success rate. ISRO's success rate is far more better than any other space agency. I remember when SpaceX' falcon explode last year without even launching.

nikus Feb 15, 2017 12:31pm

6 ton GTO rocket is almost ready. Next Modi will announce 15-20 ton class rocket on behalf of the nation/ISRO. SpaceX will definitely loose some business.

@atif khan all of them, brother.

bALAKRISHNAN kamesh KAMESH Feb 15, 2017 12:32pm

WELL.. Kohli scored 200 's in Cricket while ISRO India scored 104 not out in space... hats off

Simple Guy Feb 15, 2017 12:30pm

One basic fact that the record ISRO broke was held by Russia with 37 satellites launched in 2004 .First manned mission is awaiting government approval and will be achieved after 2020 along with many bright programs such as India coverting it's regional navigation to global one and missions to various other planets.True achievements by a true future power.

K-Ashwani Feb 15, 2017 12:35pm

@Farasat It is possible only during Modi era, what is required is the good intention from Pakistan side as well.

Vectra Feb 15, 2017 12:34pm

Great achievement. The main technology involved in this launch is to launch them in a sequence so they don't interfere with each other and go into their respective separate orbits which India successfully did it.This capability of India also proves that India now has the capability that has military dimensions as well and that is MIRV and a more complex MARV.

@sodawaterbottleopenerwala Its not jupiter but mars again. But this time ISRO will land a NASA's curiosity like rover on mars. But thats not the next mission because next one is in 2018 which is sending an orbitor to venus and thats in collaboration with the French. NASA too has shown immense interest in both the missions and wants to be a partner. NASA also wants to fit the Indian mars rover with a telematics device so that curiosity and Indian rover can interact with each other.

As NASA and ISRO going to work together for next mission, we hope ISRO can achieve next mission successfully.

Great, ISRO! You guys are Awesome. This is not an unbelievable achievement because through this ISRO’s Mars mission only India had become the first country to get a spacecraft into the martian orbit on the "maiden attempt”. If their spacecraft travelled 680 million km in 300+ days and reached the destination successfully and still functioning, this new “104 satellites in a single short” is nothing for ISRO! These guys are really incredible.

And yes - folks from South are smart but there are equally good scientists from East, West and North. Credit for this is education and its reformation pursued by successive Indian govts.

Simply follow the basics and set goals can be achieved.

This is the age of technology. It will earn billions in foreign money. India needs to improve its primary and secondary education. Every district should have at least one English medium school paid by the government. This will help to uplift the poor.

No doubt. It's a great achievement by Indians in Space Technology. Pakistan should compete with other nations if they want to be recognized as a space nation. Future is for only those countries who will advance in Space, so Pakistan should start to work towards this goal.

@gogo, "Every district should have at least one English medium school paid by the government. This will help to uplift the poor". Dear, you don't know about Indian education system. In every district in India, there are two high standard English medium school. (1) Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalaya- a word class central government funded residential school mainly for intelligent kids from the rural area with zero fee for education, lodging, food, cloths, etc...

(2) a central school at each district head quarter.

AKASH Feb 15, 2017 03:27pm

Of 104, 101 are so called nano satellites (means very small). They should really give the weight and size of these to appreciate the achievement.

Kumar Feb 15, 2017 03:24pm

It would be surprising to know that most of the top scientists working in ISRO are not from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology(IITies)!! Most of them are from other normal Engineering colleges in India!!! And see what they come out with! Extra ordinary stuff indeed! The top brains from IITs don't prefer to work in Indian government organizations because of low pay, preferences of work locations and other factors. Really wonder what would have been the output if those talents from Institutes like IITs too are tapped. Whatever be it, one can only view ISRO in Awe! Achievements, One after the other after the Other!Stupendous stuff indeed!

I love Pakistan and very proud of my nation. I also love India because there is no other country in this world which is the same to me as Pakistan other than India. I truly believe for peace and it gives me happiness to see Indian Space program do well, but hate has to be eliminated in both sides in order to be a winner in general for both of the nations we are the same. What is amazing is that most of the ISRO heads are educated mainly at Indian Institute of Sciences and Bhabha Atomic Research facility.

India has two true advanced sciences institutions in the forms of IIS and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. We need to build of these types of institutions and get more Indian companies collaborate with them.

It will be a wonderful public-private partnership to produce cutting edge mathematics, physics, chemistry, and metallurgical sciences.

India was the epicenter of civilization 2000 years back and it is time she takes her rightful place in the global order.

Apache_indian Feb 15, 2017 07:24pm

Religion has to be a personal matter not to be imposed on others. We have got much much bigger problems than worrying about how to worship God.

Sciences and mathematics will help us solve those existential problems and the world needs more brains working in those areas.

But still hearts are so small that even a cricket match in Lahore couldn't be swallowed

PB Feb 15, 2017 07:52pm

@Usman Shaukat Wont wake up.. There are reasons why ISRO rocks & that reason is intellectual diversity of different ancient cultures which continues to thrive in India..

TechScribe Feb 15, 2017 07:52pm

@imtiaz ali khan So true. We were the same country before 1947. It's alright if we are two nations now. We have similar problems such as poverty and education to address. We can cooperate so that people in both the countries can prosper.

Young Prince Feb 15, 2017 07:54pm

@Neutral Definitely Pakistan will have good leaders. India and Pakistan will have good relations going ahead. It's all in the mind nothing else.

Shyam Kokku Feb 15, 2017 08:09pm

Great feat by the scientists of ISRO. They've proved to be numero uno in space research and rocket technology in the world!

Rajeev gupta Feb 15, 2017 08:08pm

@ghaznavi who wants to impress you buddy?

Kashif Iqbal Feb 15, 2017 08:10pm

@ghaznavi Does that even matter? Give credit where it is due and look for reasons why China or western countries are not supporting us on this

Arun Feb 15, 2017 08:11pm

anony Feb 15, 2017 08:21pm

Why is it that there are still millions of indian citizens dying of hunger and poverty every single day.

anurag Feb 15, 2017 08:27pm

those who still think we are not using our resources properly, check this link and believe me its START not the end of benefits.

Stardust Feb 15, 2017 08:27pm

This feat will go a long way towards proving India's technical capabilities in this high-tech field with just a handful players in the world, With competitive, actually unbeatable cost benefits when compared with any of its competitors this should attract a bigger and bigger share of the very lucrative market in terms of its financial rewards for the country. Here's one example of a state-run enterprise of a country like India that is on par with the best in the field. Well done, India and ISRO.

Kamran 3 Feb 15, 2017 08:25pm

This is very embarrassing. India should feed million poor people.

A Kashmiri Indian muslim Feb 15, 2017 08:29pm

Congrats ISRO, proud to be indian muslim from Kashmir.

ghaznavi Feb 15, 2017 08:31pm

@AKKS "@ghaznavi, you will never be impressed unless you change your mentality!"

No being impressed is not such a bad thing. There was no magic here! neither was any innovation there. So what is there to impress. Yes it was milestone for ISRO and congrats for that but that's all to it. I mean for how many years India was building Arjun, Tejas and the rockets that all were falling into Bay of Bengal and all of a sudden all is going picture perfect. They got help by the very nations who block this technology to us.

Sijin SANKAR Feb 15, 2017 08:31pm

Proud moment to an Indian. Congrats ISRO and all the best for next mission.

hitman Feb 15, 2017 08:33pm

Counterpoint Feb 15, 2017 08:44pm

@ghaznavi Mars mission was the first ever successful slingshot mission in the world. How do you say India got technology transfer to accomplish that?

SID Feb 15, 2017 08:46pm

@Falcon1 Indian Govt has decided to build second green field airport for Mumbai ( near Navi Mumbai) . Indian company GVK power ( operator of Mumbai & Bengaluru airport ) has bagged the project for $ 2.4 billion dollar for 60 million passenger capacity terminal. It will have two parallel runway of 3.7 km each & parking space for more than 104 wide body jet .The project is schedule to complete within 36 months . Given the track record of Modi Govt, it is quite possible to complete the project within stipulated time.

KA Feb 15, 2017 09:03pm

Salute to our great scientists from ISRO. Next ISRO can achieve is landing on Moon and Mars .Also thanks to Dawn for publishing this news predominently. For last thousands of years Indians have contributed immensely to Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy , Space , medical and other branches of sciences. Now ISRO scientists are keeping this legacy going. Dr Abdul Kalam the most famous Scientist and ex-president of India was a product of such rich scientific culture of India.

Harambe of Cincinnati Feb 15, 2017 09:53pm

For long, Individually, worldwide, foreign PIO's were not respected and people only saw poverty in all of us. I saw this attitude in the Pacific and N.America, and have never been to India yet! Now, they know better! Thank you, India

Mrityunjay Tripathi Feb 15, 2017 09:58pm

Naveen Feb 15, 2017 10:58pm

I tell u the reason of ISRO's huge successes mission after mission. The isro scientists come from very humble background, from normal engineering colleges they graduate into high quality space scientists by their hard-work and dedication.

For many negetive people here, let me remind them, isro is coming up with voyage to Venus and mercury, 2nd mission to Mars and Rover into moon, and finally to sun which is named as Aditya. By 2030, India will have its own space station. Respect the achievement of this modest agency which not second to any one in this world, please read what the world media is saying about India and ISRO. Compete if you can, I challenge the world.

biman Feb 15, 2017 11:12pm

Congratulation to all member of ISRO. Hoping SPARCO will learn something from our nation and will bring some joyful moment for our pak brothers and sister.

kevin Feb 15, 2017 11:53pm

@Syed F. Hussaini You are ignorant about the real fact. India over come USA and worlds number 1 exporter of beef and earning billions of dollars. Don't believe me but can google it and confirm. Before writing and international paper like Dawn atleast educate self.

sundarhans Feb 15, 2017 11:54pm

@ghaznavi. No sir you are wrong. Precisely the Indians learned from their earlier failures. The success did'nt come all of a sudden but through years of hard work. In fact when India wanted to get technology for cryogenic engines from Russia, USA blocked it. Nonetheless India has developed ist own cryogenic engines which obviously took years.

RAJA RAMAN Feb 15, 2017 11:55pm

@bb . Thank you Bro. Thank you DAWN for publishing this news in the main page. Common people are India are just like Common people of Pakistan. We want to live in peace. Hope both countries will move away from hostile postures and there will be more people to people connect.

Rajesh Feb 16, 2017 12:14am

@anony If that is the case than in 365 days 365 million would have died of hunger. That comes to 1/3 of Indias population. In 3 years there will be all dead in india due to poverty.

Krishna Feb 16, 2017 12:16am

Pakistan and other South Asian countries too can benefit from ISRO's capabilities......we can have satellites for SAARC nations.

@ Anony , @Ghaznavi.. Inspite of all her problems, India is doing the right thing and moving towards betterment of its Citizens. With such a big population, the good effects to trickle across all segments will take time. Meanwhile , next generation is getting confident by India's achievements. These good things happening send a positive vibe to prospective investor's thereby Compounding and fueling Conducive growth environment for growth of Skill and Talent. This is where the true benefits of progress are tangible. Now if someone is hell bent on only looking at weaknesses, How do you improve yourself.. If you understand my point, I would say, there is some hope for your kind.

Come and see India, we are not what most your countryman thinks. we have 99% road penetration to villages each each door. we have electricity, mobile,3g and 4g internet, water supply many more in 99% villages, we have big hospitals in every district and dispensaries in every village. Our democratic govt thinks of everything.

It is not that other rival space giants cannot launch 104 satellites at one go, the best part is its unmatched cost-effectiveness & unparalleled reliability of customers in India's potential. And, right from the beginning, India focussed space programmes for peaceful purposes, no questions by any one so far.

Chandra Shekhar Singh Feb 16, 2017 09:32am

@ghaznavi First I would tell you that atmosphere plays big role for mindset. Let's take your example. You think that only defence tech is true technology. India is IT hub. We have major contribution in auto spares and pharmaceutical in world. Indian company hero is world's largest bike company. We are making many components of Boaing and Airbus. India is pioneer in solar energy. We are one of best in Carbon fiber composites. We are emerging as world's hospital. As for as defence technology, we have our own AWACS. Arjun nbt mk2 is induced. We have indigenous nuclear powered submarines. We have submarines launched ICBM. We have indigenous helicopter capable of world's highest 20000 ft altitude. We have eradicated Polio. We make world best vaccines. We have best cancer treatment facilities. We are world's largest milk producer. And many things more. Note one more thing we are fastest in eradicating poverty and fastest in GDP also.

Delhidude Feb 16, 2017 09:42am

Great. The number of comments will also become a record, for sure. Can't resist to be part of that recording breaking moment.

sanjeev Feb 16, 2017 09:44am

@GAUR : It is not waste of money. 100 satellites were for the international customers and 3 were Indian satellites. India earns huge foreign exchange on these missions and their own satellite launch becomes free. Surely India will corner major chunk of the 300 billion dollars market and a good step towards removal of poverty.

Syed Feb 16, 2017 09:49am

We have motorway, we are not worried.

JPG Feb 16, 2017 09:53am

@IMTIAZ ALI KHAN that's the spirit. Pakistan society should inculcate scientific temperament and openness so should Indian society. Religion should be to see oneness in Diversity. A brother from India.

AKKS Feb 16, 2017 10:55am

@ghaznavi , Don't prove your ignorance to the world! ISRO is a modest, but highly successful organisation. The ISRO of today, is the fruit of decades of hard work, commitment and dedication. India's MARS mission was based on a technology called 'sling shot method', which no other country has attempted before in the Mars mission. If you are nterested, the information is at your finger tips! Read what the world media say about ISRO. Have a good day !

HARIsH Feb 16, 2017 10:57am

Congratulations ISRO...let INDIA achieve still bigger mile stones in future...JAI HIND..

PM Feb 16, 2017 11:09am

@ghaznavi : "the rockets that all were falling into Bay of Bengal and all of a sudden all is going picture perfect." Failures are the pillar of success my friend. Indian scientists has learned from those failures and thats the reason they are now successful. And for your information, nobody is helping India in its space mission. Rather I should say, we dont need help from anybody.

one thought Feb 16, 2017 11:10am

This is one of the many reasons why India is Pakistan's best neighbor, India is so far ahead of Pakistan in science and technology, that we do not even realize how very far behind we are. The best Universities in America have Chinese and Indian professors and students. There is good reason why these two nations have progressed so fast, because they have given the highest importance to education, and scientific education in particular. We in Pakistan have a lot to learn from India. Congratulations to India.

Suresh Handa Feb 16, 2017 11:31am

@Akil Akhtar Yes, these are not very big in size. India has developed capability to launch total load about 1.5 tons only. Only achievement is fixing in orbits one by one so numbers. Still we as Indian take pride to reach to this point and we will go further .

@Akil Akhtar all stallite in space looked like an ant, and set them on there orbit so difficult to there control room with deferential country...

Suresh Handa Feb 16, 2017 11:38am

@Abhishek Varma Kakarlapudi Different regions of India have different capabilities. North Indians rule in Bollywood, Gujarat is good in business development, Punjab and Haryana in agriculture, UP and Bihar have given very good social reformers and leaders, Bengal is very good in literature, South is good in ITs and these big installations like ISRO and Defence etc are mixed brains.

I am making a slightly different point. Please note that medical tourism is getting popular in India. Many patients come to India for quality medical treatment at lesser costs. Many patients from Pakistan also got benefitted. So do accept the reality and acknowledge. We have many internal contradictions, yet we grow. We wish well for you.

We would have been World Beaters in every single tech.. in Arms.. we would have been World No 1.

No wonder English saw this way long ago.. and divided us with communal hatred.

I just wish we can turn back time.. and be ONE NATION.

Harmony-1© Feb 16, 2017 05:40pm

Definitely a good achievement for India and as usual plethora of comments on good news only.

I read a funny comment somewhere which is worth sharing:

"No doubt the 360 million Indians living in squalor clapped, watching as the rocket rumbled upwards, masking the rumbling in the empty stomachs".

Dynamite Feb 16, 2017 05:42pm

Afzaal Feb 16, 2017 06:44pm

Reclaiming glory of ancient India when the world saw aeroplane flying first time!Fantessy becomes reality but aerospace technology still not indigenous. But the pot has now begun to melt in realty thanks to the Cold War tensions when India's association with USSR resulted in transfer of crucial space technology down to nuts and bolts including launch technology. Later USA tried to restrain Russia to transfer cryo tech...publically Russian agreed but given the trade benefits this too was given secretly.Indians have to be praised for their foresight that perseverance has resulted in cheaper taxi service for other nations bringing money home. As far 104 satellites in one go it is like being able to first build 5 seater car to multi seater bus. So apart from fascination and feeling of excitement for the nation and ofcourse boasting the real capability comes from abroad.Given the commercial benefits Pakistan too needs to reinstate its frozen programme which is with in its reach.

Afzaal Feb 16, 2017 06:51pm

@Jubeir Future is visible but in many other areas India is still struggling under a psychedalic cloud and unable to see much until arrival of nuts and bolts. Same ofcourse applies to most developing countries except Chinese who are much better at reverse engineering!

ROCKstar Feb 16, 2017 07:07pm

as an Indian I wish ISRO to achieve many more.

Afzaal Feb 16, 2017 07:07pm

@Neutral Pakistan was the first country to launch a space rocked when the technology was first introdused in Asia in the 1960s. Given the hostile environment it had to change its priorities and switched over to nuke research is history. Had Pakistan not involved in proxy wars in Afghanistan its economy would have remained on stable grounds ( per capita was once bigger than that of India). I am sure just as Indian have acquired almost all technology bits from other nations Pakistn too can do the same and no doubt public pressure will make its leaders see the benefits.

BIJAY Feb 16, 2017 07:06pm

happy for 104 satellite placed correctly. India is helping other small nation now.

BIJAY Feb 16, 2017 07:09pm

India's target to do much more research, not to compete with other. As said it is better to compete with yourselves than other.

Blue Knight Feb 16, 2017 07:11pm

"... world peace is responsibility of UN and not India."

An strong India can contribute to the world peace more meaningfully..

Agni-VI Feb 16, 2017 07:14pm

@Afzaal Your charge that this is all due to Russian technology transfer is not true. True, that there were some basic technology know how but most of things are indigenously developed. The advanced missile technology which India now possess was developed parallel to Indian space technology and is 100% indigenous. India has come a long way and this is all due to world class hig tech education institutes and research centers in space and missile. So, instead of crying of jealousy, just appreciate and if not just keep quiet. And yes, Pakistan is far far away in space.

Nasar Feb 16, 2017 07:28pm

@sK Indians must also thank to foreign agencies for transfer of technology. Yes the scientists are Indians but let us accept none else is indigenous. The story of technology transfer began with the Cold War when generous transfers from the USSR enabled India to begin its programme. And now with the changed geopolitical environment India can benefit further from the Americans who are quite kean for the former to compete with the Chinese. Former US Sec of defence Carter revealed during a 'Walk the Talk' on NDTV the fact America was helping India in space. Do you know that India's Mars probe would have not reached its destination if NASA had not agreed to the use of its tracking system.

Nasar Feb 16, 2017 07:44pm

@Inner Peace Your chairman is right you are not competing with anyone but with yourself! You can not really compete with those who have let you have all the bits and pieces of technology to enable you to reach this stage. And you may or may not be competing with anyone America would tempt you to do so with China (unless Trump closes door) ...your scientists are already aiming at that.

FromKashmirwithlove Feb 16, 2017 07:50pm

ISRO Trending in Pakistan..weldone

Dynamite Feb 16, 2017 07:53pm

@Nasar - Yeah America was helping India''s space Program so that American Companies can leverage India to launch American Satellites......You really expect people to Believe that ?

IMTIAZ ALI KHAN Feb 16, 2017 07:59pm

@Harmony-1© There is truth in your comment, but again that is our India and Pakistan situation, so much poverty and few making the money. As you stated good achievement of ISRO we the Pakistanis are happy for our family in India. South Asians are very touchy and most Indians and Pakistanis haven't risen above the injected hate for each other by the so call leaders of our nations. Until that happens we will only more and more hate, but I will crush this hate again and again and bring love. Jai Hind and Pakistan Zindabad! We will one day become good friends, how can that not happen we are the same people to begin with border or no border, they can't change the common bonds we have with each other. Love to India from Pakistan. No more hate, no more hate for anyone. Always enjoy reading your interesting comments brother it's fun stay blessed. Inshallah!

Israr Feb 16, 2017 08:02pm

@Manoj No, this can not be the real India! Real was ancient India when it flew aeroplane for the first time and introduced plastic surgery. To be real you have to see how much technology has come from abroad and although launching satellites provide the nation moments of fascination and excitement India has to do much more in many other crucial areas to claim credit.

anil sahu Feb 16, 2017 08:08pm

@Nasar first learn to appreciate good things in life.

WELL WISHER FROM INDIA Feb 16, 2017 08:08pm

@IMTIAZ ALI KHAN Hats off to you sir jee. I am a Dawn reader for last several years but this is my first comment. I couldn't stop myself after reading yours :)

I have had the privilege of working with at least 4 Pakistani colleagues over last 15 years in US/UK. Let me tell you, Indians and Pakistanis abroad become instant friends.

We have same culture, same food, language. Where else you find so much similarity.

May we all live peacefully, happily and prosper together.

Honest Feb 16, 2017 08:16pm

@ashok ..what have the others contributed??

Israr Feb 16, 2017 08:31pm

@Samir It will not be bigger share. Foreign countries are using your service as a cheap taxi service and no doubt various space agencies like NASA are reaping benefits of having transferred outdated technology to India. Those countries can now save and divert money from a basic patty task, which would be much more expensive if they were were to do it themselves, to more expensive research.

Harmony-1© Feb 16, 2017 08:35pm

@Samrat @Gaur- No, we don't claim to be "rich and developed"!

My comment clearly says "Definitely a good achievement for India" but still your reaction is as expected - unrealistic and dazzled by good achievement. So, let me rephrase it:

Its all good in India; nothing bad ever happens in India; and you are not a touchy lot either. Happy!

IMTIAZ ALI KHAN Feb 16, 2017 08:38pm

@WELL WISHER FROM INDIA :) Thank you yaar.

Harmony-1© Feb 16, 2017 08:46pm

@IMTIAZ ALI KHAN - At least someone managed to see praise of India's achievement in my comment...thanks!

Do you get the feeling that we are far more realistic than them? I notice we comment more on our bad news than good news whereas its totally opposite and skewed over there and they love to project their good side only :)

Never appreciate anything good also don't get inspired and do something. Stay cocooned in your dream world.

And for your information and to make you more jealous, while the first sucessful PSLV launches happened, india was under sanction of US and western nations

Pakistan & India please come together show unity and lead the world for peace and harmony.

congrats indian friends. no doubt both countries have intelligentsia but without maturity. They should do something to uplift standard of their common people before going to space with multi million dollar projects.nothing sort of jealously.

Mango man Feb 17, 2017 05:18pm

Congratulations to ISRO. This is a tremendous achievement to be able to place so many satellites in one go.

I just have a concern regarding the space industry as a whole. I understand the need for nano satellites, but then I dont think enough thought is being put into space debris.

ITU, should look into this and devise mechanisms for spacecraft fabrication which will plunge the craft into atmosphere to burn up, instead of having dead weight satellites orbiting the earth after expiry of their useful life.

I think they should look at trajectory decay and death engine burn for LEO satellites and probably shoot the GEO satellites into the sun again on decaying trajectory principles.

Anybody got any thoughts on the subject?

IMTIAZ ALI KHAN Feb 17, 2017 05:32pm

It is a rocket science. I will not understand much of it. But, now I came to know that it can bring lots of money and puts the country ahead of many developing countries and an envy to developed countries .... Cheap is not always cheap but at a cost we have bear it till the world realizes ...

Afzaal Feb 18, 2017 01:02am

@Agni-VI Can you expand what you mean by acquisition of "some basic technology"? Glad you at least admit to the source of technology but my friend if you press yourself a little hard you will know this basic technology actually came with an extensive know how. Also remember that we are not going to praise you even if you one day do something that is entirely indigenous ( with copy rights) thanks to our strained relations. Ask your leader to solve bilateral issues with us and we would of course have no inhibition in joining your bandwagon when ever you think you have done something undo able.

Afzaal Feb 18, 2017 03:34am

@Tintu You did not understand! Foreign countries did not have to launch multiple satellites on one mission before seeing India doing the same. I said that if you have been given technology to produce a Maruti what is the difficulty in producing a bus which can carry large number of traveller to their destination. Do you know what I mean. A good news for you is that with the coming years, as a reward to India to facilitate American agenda in the region, the latter is going to shower you with lot of outdated space technology from which Americans and other agencies will benefit by buying back cheaper products produced in India rather than producing them at huge costs locally. Hope you understand.
