BAJAUR: The house of Jamaat-i-Islami leader Maulana Wahid Gul was partially damaged in a minor bomb blast in Yousafabad area of Khar tehsil here late on Friday, police and party workers said.

No one was hurt in the incident.

District police officer Waqas Rafique told reporters that a police team immediately went to the area and began a hunt for the culprits.

He said the blast damaged the house’s boundary wall and main gate as well as a car parked inside.

They insisted that the improvised explosive device was planted by miscreants next to the house and their identity was not known.

District police officer Waqas Rafique told reporters that a police team immediately went to the area and began a hunt for the culprits.

Mr Gul confirmed that no one was hurt in the blast.

He accused “anti-peace elements” of targeting his house.

No one claimed responsibility for the blast.

Residents, including political and social activists, visited Gul’s house to sympathise with him. They expressed concern over the blast and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

ABATTOIR REOPENS: A slaughterhouse was reopened after remaining closed for several years in Bajaur’s Salarzai tehsil on Saturday.

In a statement, the deputy commissioner’s office said the Pashat abattoir’s reopening would ensure that butchers slaughter cattle in a safe and hygienic environment.

Four cattle heads were slaughtered under the supervision of a veterinary doctor from the livestock and dairy development department.

Standard operating procedures, including inspection of the animals before and after slaughter, were adopted, according to the statement.

The abattoir’s reopening was ordered by deputy commissioner Shahid Ali Khan, during a recent visit to the area.

“The district administration is committed to ensuring the provision of safe, healthy and quality meat to residents,” read the statement.

It added that efforts were under way to make all slaughterhouses in the district, especially in Khar, fully functional very soon.
