LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party veteran leader Altaf Ahmed Qureshi, who breathed his last on Tuesday, was laid to rest in Miani Sahib graveyard here. He was 82.

He left behind two sons and a daughter to mourn.

As per his family sources, he had been suffering from various ailments for a long time. Initially, he suffered from an eye disorder due to which his eyesight gradually deteriorated. Later,he also suffered from memory loss.

His funeral prayers were attended by PPP leaders, including Chaudhry Manzoor, Chaudhry Aslam Gul, Usman Malik, Naveed Chaudhry, Mian Misbahur Rehman, Faisal Mir, Rana Jamil Manj, Dr Javed Jan, Javed Akhtar, Chaudhry Riaz, Chaudhry Khadim Hussain, Tanveer Butt, Haji Azizur Rehman Chan, Munir Ahmed Khan, Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas and Farrukh Marghub Siddiqui, besides hundreds of other mourners.

Qul Khwani will be held at his residence, 71-A-3, Johar Town, after Asr prayers on Wednesday (today).

Qureshi started his political career by joining the National Students Federation (NSF). Later, he opted for journalism as career and worked for various newspapers in different capacities. He also remained chief reporter and editor of daily Musawat, the party paper of the PPP.

He had been an advisor on students affairs to late premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and also served as PPP Punjab chapter information secretary. He was also appointed an adviser to slain Benazir Bhutto, besides serving as the president of the PPP Study Circle, Punjab.
