ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: The Sindh government has announced plans to upgrade 10,000 primary schools to the status of elementary schools. The move is aimed at reducing students’ dropout rate. The Ghari village in the Mehar taluka of Dadu district has no elementary school. There is a Government Boys Primary School in the village that has more than 250 students on its rolls, including both boys and girls. Due to the lack of an elementary school, a large number of students are deprived of secondary education opportunities every year once they pass the fifth grade. It is high time the government considered upgrading the school in Ghari as well.

ENERGY INJUSTICE: This is with reference to the report ‘PM blocks review of net metering policy, again’ (July 21), which left me disappointed. It is dis-heartening to know how little consideration is given to those who do not have the means to install solar systems. The current net-metering arrangement allows rooftop solar users to sell electricity at high rates; cost that is ultimately passed on to non-solar consumers in the shape of inflated tariffs. This is not just an oversight; it is a structural injustice. The proposed policy reform was not anti-solar; it was pro-fairness. To pause this reform is like sending the wrong message that loud and powerful voices matter more than fair outcomes.

ILLEGAL STUFF: The area around Faiz Muhammad Road in Quetta is a crowded place that attracts students from various parts of Balochistan for quality education. However, there is a concerning issue which has been continuously disrupting the environment in the area. Illicit liquor and other addictive stuff is being openly sold by various shops. The illegal activity continues even after market hours (10pm). This poses a significant threat to society. The authorities should take immediate action against the menace.
