QUETTA: A day after the bodies of two minor girls were found in Quetta’s Sariab area, the Balochistan Assembly on Thursday sought a probe into the killing after a lawmaker demanded the formation of a committee to investigate the double homicide.

The bodies, stuffed in a gunny bag, were recovered from the Qambrani Road area of the provincial capital on Wednesday night and shifted to the hospital for medico-legal procedures.

The deceased, identified as Bibi Merab, 3, and Bibi Yasra, 7, died due to asphyxiation, said Dr Ayesha Faiz, who conducted the autopsy.

The issue was brought to the attention of the provincial assembly by Balochistan Awami Party lawmaker Agha Umar Ahmadzai, who called for a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the slain girls.

In response, Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai issued a ruling, directing the Balochistan police chief and the additional home chief secretary to submit a detailed report.

CM takes notice

Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti took notice of the double murder as well as the Mustang ‘honour killing’ and ordered the police chief to arrest the suspects involved in both incidents.

He ordered that the investigation in both cases be handed over to the Serious Crimes Investigation Wing of the police to ensure a transparent and evidence-based inquiry.
