LOADSHEDDING

LOADSHEDDING: Summer is never easy in Balochistan. The weather is harsh, and the loadshedding is endless. There are areas that receive zero electricity supply for several days. Except for Quetta and Gwadar, electricity is not available for more than 12 hours in major cities and towns across the province. In villages, the situation is worse. Provision of solar systems, and installation of wind power plants can improve the situation in Balochistan, but the government is not paying any attention to such matters.

VIOLENCE AGAINST ACADEMIA: This is with reference to the report “Karachi University teacher ‘assaulted by armed personnel’ over garbage burning” (July 17). It was disheartening to read about such a disgraceful act of violence, especially when it involved the beating of a university professor. The incident raises serious concerns about the use of force by security personnel in situations that should be handled with dignity and respect. Such actions reflect poorly on society as a whole, and warrant a thorough investigation to ensure accountability.

INSECURITY IN BALOCHISTAN: The security situation in Balochistan is alarming. An explosion on a railway track in Mach recently injured a railway worker. The Jaffar Express has also come under attack more than once. Such incidents highlight how weak the security mecha- nism happens to be. The federal govern- ment should take immediate measures to address security concerns across Pakistan, especially across Balochistan.

RAIN IN FAISALABAD: The poor sanitation system in Faisalabad has made life miserable. Even if it rains for merely a few minutes, roads across the city become pools of stagnant water because of the lack of proper drainage. The local authorities should prioritise the issue and take necessary action.
