AGGRESSION AMONG TEENS: The increasing aggression among teenagers compelled me to investigate its root cause. Research reveals that excessive use of electronic gadgets, particularly smartphones, is seriously detrimental to teenagers’ mental health and behaviour pattern. Studies worldwide have shown a direct link between screen time and increased aggression, anxiety and depression. It is imperative that parents and teachers take responsibility for guiding the younger generation about responsible and rational use of gadgets. We must set limits on screen time, encourage physical activity, and foster open conversations about online safety. We must be critically cautious.

EQUALLY RESPONSIBLE: The Sindh governor was recently quoted by the national media as saying that there would be no more road accidents in Karachi if the boss of traffic police was placed directly under him. I am not sure what the governor has in mind, but I have another suggestion. Every time an accident happens, name the relevant traffic police personnel right up to the city traffic police boss as the person responsible in the FIR. The problem will be resolved within a few hours.

AIRLINE FEATS: This is with reference to the letter ‘Not unusual’ (March 23) which hoped that one would not hear news, like “PIA plane lands with only one engine running” and “PIA crew makes successful landing with the pilot fast asleep”. Modern jet airplanes can land even if one of the two engines is running. There have been many cases of engine damage due to bird strike. These planes can also land safely on auto-pilot under co-pilot’s supervision even if the pilot happens to be fast asleep. So, it is likely that the above mentioned ‘feats’ might have already been accomplished by the national airline without the incident making it to the news!
