HYDERABAD: A fire broke out at a new coal project site of Jamshoro Power Company Limited (old Jamshoro Thermal Power House) on Saturday. No major damage was caused, according to the company.

The fire, which broke out in a store, completely destroyed old tyres and discarded goods. According to Rescue 1122 official Dilbar Halepoto, one fire tender of the emergency services department and another one from the power house brought the fire under control.

The store was set up in a container placed at a distance of 400-500 metres from the new coal project site, a power house officials said, adding that no damage was caused to any machinery or equipment.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the power house Mohammad Abdul Vakil did not respond to the Whatsapp message dropped on his number to seek his version.

On March 20, a major incident of fire had occurred at the Jamshoro Power Company. The blaze had damaged heavy equipment present in the ‘direct current battery banks’ and had engulfed the adjacent joint control room of Unit-I and Unit-II. The entire cable system, besides the control room, was destroyed.

An inquiry into the incident was ordered but its findings are yet to be known.
