PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Monday sealed eight factories for violating food safety rules.

A statement issued here said an authority team raided the Hamdard factory in Hayatabad and the unit producing a popular drink was sealed for using stale and rotten fruits as an ingredient of the said colouring drink.

It said three other factories situated in the industrial state were sealed for non-compliance with food safety laws. Three spice units were also sealed in another operation carried out in Bacha Khan Chowk. The spice units were using crushed wooden and flour wastes along with rotten garlic. The units also lacked hygiene and cleanliness.

A water plant was sealed in Swat and 400 litres of adulterated milk was destroyed in Mingora city.
