LAHORE: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Sunday elected its new office-bearers for a three-year term (2017-2019).

Dr Mehdi Hasan was elected chairperson and Uzma Noorani co-chairperson. The provincial vice-chairpersons were: Habib Tahir (Balochistan), Kamran Arif (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Salima Hashmi (Punjab) and Asad Iqbal Butt (Sindh). Naazish Ata-ullah was elected treasurer.

The HRCP general body nominated Asma Jahangir as its spokesperson.

The HRCP also announced I.A. Rehman Scholarship for students who would pursue human rights studies. The scholarship was announced in recognition of the services of Mr Rehman as HRCP secretary general.
