MINGORA: Two minor girls were killed after a loaded truck hit them on the main road in Mingora city here on Saturday.

According Mingora police, two minor girls – Muqaddas, 7, and Sadia 5 -- were seriously injured after a loaded truck hit them at Gul Bahar Colony in Mingora city. “The truck was heading to a goods depot to unload the freight. But the driver lost control over the vehicle, hitting two girls standing along the roadside,” said a police official.

He added that both Muqaddas and Sadia were first cousins, who were immediately taken to hospital, but they succumbed to their injuries there. Driver of the truck, Afareen Khan, was arrested and a case was registered against him.

Following the incident, residents of Gul Bahar took to the streets and demanded of the authorities to remove the goods stand from the residential area.

The citizens regretted that no safety measures had been taken by the authorities for the locals. The authorities must shift the goods stand to some other place to avoid further loss of lives at the hands of reckless drivers of trucks, they demanded.
