LAHORE, July 16: Calligraphy artists had a wonderful evening at the Alhamra Art Gallery, The Mall, on Tuesday as an exhibition of calligraphy artworks and paintings were a source of delight to artists as well as the general public.

The seventh annual exhibition of calligraphy paintings was organised by the Punjab Council of Arts. Calligraphy artists, faculty and students from different art institutions and the general public showed great interests in more than 100 artworks by some 80 artists. They represented different cities of Punjab, including Lahore.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Minister for Population Welfare Zakia Shahnawaz along with Secretary Culture Momin Agha.

The canvasses on display were rich and eye catching. The artists had come up with different themes and ideas. For example, Saifur Rehman had used in his painting traditional Mughal patterns and Islamic motifs.

The exhibition was a nice contrast of both traditional and modern calligraphy.

When it comes to traditional calligraphy one could see many styles used by the artists such as Khat-i-Kufi, Khat-i-Sulus, Khat-i-Nastalique, Khat-i-Nasakh and Khat-i-Deewani. The paintings also carried graphic elements. The exhibition will continue for a week.
