ISLAMABAD, June 1: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) office located in Sector G-7/2 was stormed on Friday by the enforcement staff of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) who damaged the machinery and equipment worth Rs20 million.

Apparently, the CDA staff went berserk in retaliation for the disconnection of power supply by Wapda to the civic body’s buildings including its headquarters over non-payment of bills.

Wapda engineer Nauman Yousaf told Dawn that the CDA enforcement staff raided the Wapda camp office and took away the expensive equipment and damaged the machinery.

The power supply to CDA offices was suspended due to non-payment of bills worth millions of rupees, he said and added that June was the recovery month and the electricity was cut down to recover the dues.

After getting information, senior Wapda officers reached there and later lodged a compliant with Aabpara police station against the CDA enforcement staff.

While commenting on the issue, Chairman CDA Farkhand Iqbal said that the action against the camp office was taken due to encroachment and illegal construction. He said that the Wapda owed four times more to the CDA than the civic body’s electricity bills.
