Picturesque grassy plains of land, wavy colours in the mountains, golden deserts, lush green forests, deep blue seas, rivers and streams, are the beauties that sum up our country, Pakistan.

To add meaning to our identity, there are various cordons that are the essence of our independent state. These are called our national emblems, which include the crescent and star bearing flag; our attire, the shalwar and kameez; our national anthem; our language, Urdu; 'Unity, faith and discipline', our national motto; hockey, our national sport, and a lot more.

Let's discover some other interesting ones and why they are worthy of earning the status of our national emblems.

National fruit

The sweet, juicy, mouth-watering king of fruits, mango, is the national fruit of Pakistan. This is because Pakistan is one of the largest producers and exporter of mangos, which earns a large amount of revenue for the country.

Our national flower

A fully bloomed jasmine is the national flower of Pakistan. It is mostly found white in colour in our part of the world, just like the flag of Pakistan which is green and white. Jasmine is the symbol of hope, optimism, and a new beginning and it's most fragrant at sunrise.

National tree

A large evergreen deodar (conifer) tree is the national tree of Pakistan. It can go up to the height of 40-50 metres, and in some exceptional cases it can go up to even 60 metres! It has a conic crown with level branches and needle-like leaves. Due to its durability deodar trees are preferably used in construction, hence it symbolises the strong, unwavering build of Pakistan.

National animal

The spiral horned markhor is the largest member in the goat family and is the national animal of Pakistan. Markhors are very active and energetic antelopes having the strange ability of standing on their hind legs to reach out to the top most leaves of a tree. Markhor is a Persian word which means the snake eater, but these are not snake eaters at all. Despite their friendly nature, they are dangerous for their enemies.

National bird

The tiny, harmless chukor (chukar or alectoris) is the national bird of the country. It is a symbol of intense and unconditional love. Chukor is an admirer of beauty and is said to be in love with the moon. Just like the chukor, the inhabitants of Pakistan praise the beauty in nature that surrounds them.

National drink

The freshly prepared sweet and scrumptious sugarcane juice is the national drink of our country. Sugarcane has the ability to shield humans from diseases such as hepatitis, in which doctors advice patients to drink as much of it as possible.

In Pakistan, sugarcane production is very high that is why it has been chosen to be the part of our national emblem family.

National emblems are the symbolic representation of the people of the nation. It shows the nature, behaviour and qualities of the people of a country. We have to scrutinise ourselves and take out the markhor, chukar and jasmine in us in order to represent our country. Think about this! Happy Independence Day!
