ISLAMABAD, Jan 13: The Federal Shariat Court could not function on Monday as it became ‘incomplete’ after the retirement of Chief Justice Fazal Ellahi Khan. The president has not yet appointed the new chief justice.
An official of the Federal Shariat Court told Dawn that no work was possible on Monday, as the court was without the chief justice and under the law, the court became incomplete without the chief justice.
Justice Fazal Ellahi Khan, a retired judge of the Supreme Court, was appointed as chief justice of the Shariat Court on Jan 11, 2000, for three years.
His period expired on Jan 11, 2003, and Monday was the first working day when the registrar cancelled the roaster as under the law the court was incomplete.
