LAHORE, Aug 10: The first batch of 45 women and men police officials of model police stations has completed training to manage gender-based crimes under the Gender Responsive Policing project.

Funded by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the project is being implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation with the National Police Bureau of Pakistan.

The Punjab government has established 50 model police stations in the province where these trained staff will be deployed.

The trained police officers can manage stress, have improved communication skills, know and understand gender concerns and forms of violence against women and that how to combat such crime, according to Commandant Police College Lahore Faisal Rana.

“The trained batch is also trained in investigating crimes against women,” he said.

He distributed certificates among the trained officers.

Police College Chief Law Instructor Waseem Durrani said the Punjab police with the technical assistance of Gender Responsive Policing Project was hitting the right chord by arranging the much needed trainings for both male and female police officers.

He said the project had entered its second phase to support the National Police Bureau of Pakistan to execute the executive police to adopt and implement a standardized policy for gender mainstreaming and gender just access to policing, taking into consideration the principles of the rules of law.
