HYDERABAD, July 1: PML-N Sindh leader Makhdoom Shahnawaz was laid to rest in the premises of Makhdoom Nooh's shrine in Hala town, which remained closed on Friday as a mark of mourning. He died of liver cirrhosis and had been under treatment in a Karachi hospital for some time.

Late Shahnawaz had always been active in local politics and remained associated with PPP-SB, PPP and PML-N. He contested elections as independent candidate, and on tickets given by these parties during different general elections.

Late Shahnawaz and PPP's veteran leader and federal minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim are related. Fahim's father and late Shahnawaz were cousins.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Makhdoom Khaliquzzaman, Makhdoom Jamiluzzaman, Makhdoom Rafikuzaman, Imtiaz Shaikh, MPA Amir Hashmi, Sardar Mohammad Ali Shah Jamote and Ismail Rahu attended the funeral.
