ISLAMABAD, June 13: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided to strengthen the computing and networking facilities at the Bahria University, Islamabad. In this regard, a Rs30 million project was approved in a Departmental Development Working Party meeting held at the HEC headquarters recently.
The objective of the scheme is to develop the internal automation in the university and constituent units. For optimum use and sharing of resources it has been planned to have a fibre optics backbone, while all the constituent/affiliated colleges in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, etc., will form independent nodes connected with it.
The scheme aims at establishing e-offices in the university. Inter-offices communication would be channelled through the internet and e-mail and it would be ensured that such communication are secure, legally covered and digitally authenticated. Therefore, the prevailing physical file system would be gradually replaced with a computer-based file management system.
