ISLAMABAD, May 8: The travelling “Art for Charity” exhibition featuring coloured and black and white photographs of international photographers opened at the Khaas Art Gallery here on Monday.

The week-long exhibition was arranged by the Dawn Group of Newspapers as part of the national relief effort to provide assistance to the victims of the October 2005 earthquake that struck the northern Pakistan and Azad Kashmir.

The two artists — Sheikha Latifa bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, daughter of UAE Vice-President Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, and graphic designer and photographer Uschi Schmitt-Ladanyi — explore the world and better understand themselves while creating luminous works of art.

Featuring impressions of old buildings, ruins, horses and falcons, harbours, and flowers, the photographs seem like a blend of memories and emotions.

This high profile exhibition is aimed at presenting the work of internationally acclaimed artists and generate funds for the assistance of the earthquake victims and contribute to the efforts in bringing their lives back to normal.

All proceeds from the sales of artworks will go towards the Dawn Relief fund for the earthquake victims. Dawn Relief has adopted four villages in the earthquake-hit district of Hattian Tehsil Bala, Azad Kashmir, where reconstruction and rebuilding is underway.

The exhibition will continue till May 14 excluding Sunday (May 13).
