LARKANA: A Quran Khwani was held at Naudero House, the camp office of President Asif Ali Zardari, on Saturday to mark the 41st death anniversary of Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto, the younger son of PPP founder chairman and executed prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, with reverence and respect.

The event was organised by PPP Larkana district chapter and attended by the First Lady, MNA Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari and Sassui Bhutto, daughter of Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto, besides a large number of party leaders, activists and supporters.

After the Quran Khawani, a collective prayer was offered and langar (free food) was distributed. Later, party workers proceeded to the Bhuttos’ mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto, where they paid homage to Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Musrat Bhutto, Mir Murtaza Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.

Speaking to the audience, several party leaders paid glowing tribute to the political struggle and services of Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto. They said that after the martyrdom of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Shahnawaz Bhutto waged a sustained struggle against the dictatorial forces, and it was precisely for this reason that anti-democratic forces had him poisoned to death.

They said that the struggle of Shahnawaz Bhutto served as a beacon for the youth. They expressed their confidence that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, who is carrying forward the mission of the party’s martyrs, will become the prime minister to steer the country out of its difficulties and serve the nation and its people.

The event at Naudero House was also attended by a large number of women under the leadership of PPP’s Larkana District Women Wing President Nasseba Channa, along with Dr Sakina Gaad, Bushra Moghal, and Amna Jamali.

Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari introduced the women leaders to Sassui Bhutto, telling her that they were hard workers who had done great work during the recent elections. After having lunch together, they left for Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto, where they prayed at the graves of the all Bhutto family members buried there.

MNA Khursheed Junejo and MPA Suhail Anwar Siyal were also present there. They later visited the Bhutto Estate lands.

According to sources, Sassui Bhutto also toured the land belonging to her. At a place within the estate, known as Gulab Chowk, Aseefa met estate workers, before they returned to the Naudero House.
