KARACHI: To celebrate 75 years of Pak-China diplomatic relations, a film screening was held at the Arts Council of Pakistan on Friday evening in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Liaison Office Karachi.

The programme began with the national anthems of the two countries, followed by a song in Urdu and Chinese languages. After that a cake was cut to celebrate the occasion.

The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Yang Yundong, was the chief guest at the event.

Speaking on the occasion, he said over the past 75 years China and Pakistan have always supported and trusted each other. He mentioned the visits of President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and said during those visits the two sides reiterated to deepen the Pak-China all-weather strategic partnership.

He said one of the reasons that Pak-China relations have stood the test of time is that the people of the two countries have always been closely connected at heart. “Cultural exchange is important for mutual understanding… One of the most important art forms, film, transcends language and geography, enabling people to understand each other’s history and culture.”

Irfan Soomro, director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Karachi Liaison Office, said for 75 years Pakistan and China have stood together through the globally shifting geopolitical landscape. “When we speak of Pak-China ties, we describe something very rare in international relations. It’s a relationship build on trust, proven by time and strengthened by the shared visit of prosperity, development and regional peace.”

Arts Council President Ahmed Shah said in 75 years the bond between the two nations has deepened, broadened and flourished. “Our ties go far beyond trade routes and infrastructure. The heart of our people are connected on a far deeper level.”

After the speeches, the Chinese film The Shadow Chaser starring Jackie Chan was screened.
