RAWALPINDI: Rawal Dam spillways were opened on Sunday morning for five hours to reduce water in the lake.

The recent rains filled the water reservoirs of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for the 11th time, and the spillways of the dam were opened on Sunday morning after the water level touched 1,752 feet.

Sub-divisional officer of Small Dam Organisation Arslan Abbas toldDawn that this year the spillways were opened 11 times.

He said sirens were blown before opening the spillways, so people residing along Korang Nullah were advised to refrain from fishing and bathing in the downstream because of the release of a large amount of water from the lake, as it could be dangerous.
