SARGODHA: A meeting reviewed the rehabilitation and installation of water filtration plants under the Punjab Water Services Regulatory Authority (PWSRA) and Suthra Punjab activities in the district on Saturday.

The meeting, held at the commissioner’s office, was informed that a total of 1,277 filtration plants would be installed in all four districts of the Sargodha division in phases.

Under Phase-I, 658 plants would be installed in Bhakkar, Mianwali and Khushab, while 619 plants would be installed in the Sargodha district in Phase-II. The meeting was told that the PC-I was in the final stages and the project would cost a total of Rs8.8 billion. The project would be completed by June 30, 2026.

A report on the progress of ongoing schemes for the rehabilitation of existing filtration plants was also presented in the meeting.

Commissioner Jahanzeb Awan said that the provision of clean water was the need of the hour for improving public health and quality of life. The completion of this project would directly benefit millions of people, he added.

He directed to provide the details of the plants to the divisional and district administrations so that amendments could be made as per local requirements.

Furthermore, the commissioner directed the district administration and Wasa to remain on high alert and ensure preventive measures during the ongoing rains.

The meeting also reviewed the activities of the Clean Punjab initiative. The commissioner directed the deputy commissioners and solid waste management CEO to ensure effective house-to-house garbage collection, washing roads and cleaning construction debris, desilting drains and canals in villages.

The meeting also discussed the formation of committees at the village and union council levels, TORs and city beautification plans.

The meeting was attended by Sargodha ADCR Fahad Mahmood, Sargodha ADC Majid Bin Ahmed, Khushab DC Farwa Aamir, Mianwali DC Khalid Goraiya, Bhakkar DC Muhammad Ashraf, Development Director Bilal Hassan, SWMC CEO Rana Shahid Imran, Wasa MD Azizullah Khan and assistant commissioners through video link.
