RAWALPINDI: The Rawal Dam spillways were opened on Friday afternoon after the water level in the dam rose, prompting the management to take action.

Rawal Dam Sub-Divisional Officer Arslan Abbas told Dawn that as the water level had reached 1,751.30 feet, the spillways were opened at 1pm on Friday and would remain open until the level drops to 1,750 feet.

The dam has filled eight times during the current monsoon season, with the spillways opened each time to reduce the water from its maximum capacity of 1,752 feet.

Meanwhile, the Met Office has predicted more rain in the country.

According to the Met Office, a seasonal low lies over north Balochistan, while moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating the upper parts of the country. A trough of a westerly wave is also affecting the region.

For Saturday, it forecasts partly cloudy weather with rain, wind, and thundershowers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, the Potohar region, northeast Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Isolated heavy falls are also expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, and Kashmir. Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are also likely in northeast and south Balochistan, south Punjab, and southeast Sindh during the evening and night.
