DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A man allegedly shot dead his wife on Friday, six months after their love marriage, in the limits of Kirri Khaisur police station of Paharpur tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan district.

According to a police official, the incident took place in Dheralawala Bhanar area of Bilot, where a man named Shafa opened fire on his wife inside their home, killing her on the spot.

Local sources said the couple had married by their own choice around six months ago, a decision that had caused resentment within their families.

The police reached the scene soon after it received the information and shifted the body to a hospital for postmortem, and launched further investigation.

DROWNED: A young man drowned in the Indus River on Friday after slipping into the water during an outing with his wife, Rescue 1122 officials said.

They identified the victim as Mohammad Adnan, son of Mehrban, who had gone to the riverbank with his wife for recreation. While attempting to wash his feet at the edge of the river, he reportedly slipped and drowned into deep water.

Upon receiving the information, a Rescue 1122 team reached the spot and launched an operation to recover the body.

HYGIENE & FOOD SAFETY: On the special directives of the deputy director Halal Food Authority Dera, Dr Wasif Khan, inspection teams of the authority on Friday launched a vigorous crackdown on hotels, restaurants, and fast-food outlets across the city to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety standards.

During the inspection drive, the teams thoroughly checked kitchen cleanliness, storage conditions, expiry dates of food items, and staff hygiene.

Several food outlets were fined on the spot for poor sanitary conditions and violating food safety SOPs, while the licenses of a number of business outlets were renewed after verification.

Dr Wasif Khan, while talking to the media, said that the provision of safe, hygienic and halal food to the public was a fundamental responsibility of the authority.

“Public health is our foremost priority, and we are committed to taking a strict action against all those involved in selling substandard, unhygienic or hazardous food items,” he stressed. He urged food business operators to adopt best hygiene practices, ensure proper waste disposal, and keep cooking and storage areas clean all the times.

The deputy director warned that surprise inspections would continue and the violators would face heavy fines, closure of businesses, or legal proceedings under the zero-tolerance policy of the authority.
