KARACHI: A woman was shot dead allegedly by her husband in the name of so-called honour in Lyari on Tuesday, police said.

They identified the victim as Bakhtawar, 40, and said that her husband, Nawab, was arrested and the murder weapon recovered from his possession.

Chakiwara SHO Sajid Dharejo said that the suspect told the police that he killed his wife when she was asleep at around 1:30am. She sustained three bullet wounds and died on the spot.

He said that the suspect said that his wife used to talk with a man over the cell phone and he had warned her not to do so, but she did not pay any heed to his warning.

The SHO said the suspect was a labourer and originally hailed from Mansehra. The couple had seven children, he added.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
