KARACHI: A passer-by was killed and another injured when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) hit them in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Sunday evening, police and rescuers said.

The incident angered locals, who beat the driver responsible for the accident and set his Toyota Fortuner on fire.

The police said that the vehicle gutted completely by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.

Gulshan-i-Iqbal SHO Mohammed Naeem Rajput told Dawn that the SUV driver hit some passers-by near Maskan Chowrangi, causing critical injuries to at least two of them.

They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced one of them dead on arrival.
