NAROWAL: Lesser Kalan Station Station House Officer (SHO) Wasif Munir was seriously injured when suspects opened fire on a police team responding to a 15-helpline call about a fight between two groups in Dola Chak, Zafarwal, on Wednesday.

Upon receiving the emergency call, the police team arrived at the scene, where the suspects, amid the ongoing dispute, began firing. SHO Munir was injured during the incident. The suspects fled while continuing to fire as they escaped.

The injured SHO was shifted in a police van to Shakargarh Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for initial medical care. District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Naveed Malik, upon learning of the incident, rushed to the scene and initiated strict measures to apprehend the culprits. All entry and exit points of Narowal district were sealed, and special search teams led by SP Investigation and DSP Zafarwal were tasked with the immediate arrest of the suspects.

DPO Malik also visited the injured SHO at hospital, where he ensured that the officer received appropriate treatment. After initial care, SHO Munir was referred to Narowal District Headquarters Hospital for further medical attention.

Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Afzal confirmed that the SHO had sustained a bone fracture due to the gunfire and stated that surgery would be performed on Thursday or Friday. Deputy Commissioner Syed Hasan Raza assured that the injured officer was being provided with the best medical facilities available.

The police said that no FIR has been registered yet.
