SUKKUR: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested another facilitator of the main suspect in the murder of journalist Jan Muhammad Mahar.

SITE DSP Syed Mushtaq Shah told reporters at a press conference held here at his office that police had arrested the suspected facilitator, Safdar Soomro, who aided Sheral alias Shero Mahar and was in telephonic contact with him and other dacoits in riverine areas.

A resident of Lakhi Ghulam Shah in Shikarpur district, Safdar Soomro was also a schoolteacher, said the DSP.

He said that police had arrested him on the basis of technical evidence as a case had been lodged against him for providing facilities to dacoits.

The officer said that the suspect used to send food items and other stuff via boats to Sheral Mahar who was operating along with notorious dacoit Nasro Qadrani in the riverine area, Shikarpur. district.

The suspect was in contact with the killers of Mahar, the DSP said, adding that the suspect had spoken with Nasro Qadrani in the riverine area through telephone more than 200 times over the past 20 days.

The Sukkur police have so far claimed to have arrested seven facilitators of the main killer since the murder of the journalist a year ago.
