POWER: The elders of Kurrum Par area have asked Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) to restore supply of electricity to trans-river belt from Landiwah-II feeder. They pledged that consumers would pay their utility regularly.

The elders gave the assurance to officials during a meeting with local authorities of Pesco in Naurang town here the other day. The elders told officials that the entire area had been without electricity for the last three weeks.

Elders decided to launch agitation if Pesco did not accept their request for restoration of power supply. Officials cited power theft and low recoveries as main reasons for disconnection of power supply.

Elders said that suspension of electricity caused shortage of water in rural localities of the district lying across the Kurram River. “Though well-off people have made alternate arrangements by installing solar system, the suspension of electricity has confronted many villagers with numerous problems,” they said.

They said that talks with the Pesco officials were successful and they assured elders of restoration of electricity to their area.

“Under an agreement, defaulters will clear their dues and elders will play an effective role to curb power theft. Officials asked people to pay bills regularly so that the company could provide better services to them.
