LAHORE: Pakistan’s team has achieved remarkable success at the 65th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), held in Bath, United Kingdom, on July 11.

The team secured both silver and bronze medals, showcasing their exceptional mathematical skills on an international stage.

Raazi Hassan Mansoor from Karachi won a prestigious silver medal, while his fellow Karachiite, Muhammad Ahmad Bhatti, earned a bronze medal.

Additionally, Muhammad Mahad Arif from Lahore received an Honorable Mention for his commendable performance.

The Pakistani team’s participation in the Olympiad was sponsored by the STEM Careers Program, a collaborative initiative between the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Science (PIEAS).

The team underwent rigorous training at Comsats University, Lahore Campus, under the guidance of Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad and Dr Hani Shakir.

PIEAS, operating under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), conducts a National Science Talent Contest (NSTC) annually in four subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.

The NSTC, held in 19 cities across Pakistan, identifies top students who are then trained for international competitions through the STEM Careers Program.

The top 50 students from the screening test are invited to residential training camps at Home Institutes (HI) for each subject.

After multiple training camps, this number is narrowed down to 4-6 students per subject who represent Pakistan at International Science Olympiads (ISOs).
