ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) on Tuesday announced that a convention will be held in the federal capital in which 200 delegates from 28 countries and over 3,000 doctors from within Pakistan will participate to discuss issues related to healthcare and how they can be resolved.

The announcement was made by PIMA President Prof Dr Khubaib Shahid during a news conference held at a local hotel. He said that PIMA was striving for the progress of medical education and health care in the country with reference to Islamic teachings and regularly conducted sessions, series of workshops, seminars, master classes, symposia and conferences to enlighten the health care practitioners with recent advances and its applications in the socio-religious context.

“This year, we will hold a convention at Jinnah Convention Centre on Oct 29 and 30 in conjunction with the Federation of Islamic Medical Associations (FIMA). Over 3,000 physicians from all over the country and over 200 delegates from all over the world apart from a number of global authorities in different fields of the health care sector are expected to attend this convention, to meet and deliberate on issues related to health care, particularly in the Muslim world,” Dr Shahid said.

“The plenary sessions of the convention will fall under the ambit of ‘Medical Profession: Social Responsibility, Contemporary Challenges of Muslim Ummah, Medical Ethics anAd Career Opportunities for Young Doctors’. Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed will be chief guest of the inaugural session. Country head of World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala, Ambassador Abdul Basit, Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, president of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) Prof Shoaib Shafi will be the guest speakers of the two-day programme.

“We are expecting that a large number of doctors from all over Pakistan will attend this convention and it will be the largest ever gathering of healthcare professionals,” he added.
