Two police die in road accident

RAWALPINDI, Oct 24: A Special Branch official died and his colleague received critical injuries when a truck overturned and fell on them on Kashmir Highway on Monday, police said.

Both the officials were coming back to their office on a motorbike after performing duty at Punjab House, Islamabad, where the Punjab Chief Minister, Ch Pervez Elahi, was staying.

Police said the incident took place when a truck (RIN-7875) coming towards Zero Point overturned on their motorbike while avoiding accident with a car on Kashmir Highway. As a result, the two officials, identified as ASIs Masoor and Rafiq of Special Branch, Rawalpindi, were injured critically. However, Masoor Ahmed died before reaching the hospital, while ASI Rafiq was shifted to the Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH). The body of the deceased ASI was handed over to his family.

Meanwhile, two gunmen deprived a man of Rs56,000, while auto- thieves deprived five people of their vehicles in Rawalpindi.

Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam complained to the Kallar Saidan police that he was on his way to home when two armed persons intercepted him and made away with Rs56,000.

Major Sohail Ahmed’s car (RIC-1658) was stolen from New Town, while Major Nadeem Shahzad’s car (MLZ-2822) was lifted from the Civil Lines area. Muhammad Sadiq lodged a similar complaint with Saddar Barooni police stating that his car (IDD-4630) was stolen from outside his house.
