RAWALPINDI: The President and Chief Martial Law Administrator, Gen A.M. Yahya Khan, has appointed a three-member Special Committee to probe into the properties and assets held by the senior Government servants and their dependents, it was officially announced here today [May 6].

It will scrutinise the declaration of assets to be submitted to the Committee by senior Government officers, including the President and members of the Council of Administration.

The Committee is headed by Mr Justice Sheikh Masooti Ahmed and includes Mr Justice Mohammad Idris and Commodore R.A. Mumtaz of the Pakistan Navy as members. The Committee has been set up under Ordinance IX of 1969 in pursuance of the announcement made by the President on April 22, 1969. — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Lahore,] Sheikh Rahmatullah of Sheikh Inayatullah and Sons and Nawazish Ali and Syed Bashir Husain of Lahore have been apprehended under Martial Law Regulation No. 34 for contravening the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, says a handout issued here today [May 6]. ... More arrests are expected in the near future.
