KOHAT: Renowned eye specialist Dr Olia Jan Wazir was killed by two motorcyclists at Gulu Bera Square in Junglekhel area here on Thursday.

Police arrested both the motorcyclists when they were fleeing the area.

Dr Wazir was assistant professor at Kohat Medical College and also worked at KDA Teaching Hospital. He was seriously injured in the attack and succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Peshawar.

DPO Wahid Mehmood said that in a swift and successful operation both the accused were arrested along with two weapons when they were trying to escape.

He said that the arrested persons identified as Meharban Khan and Meer Rehman belonged to Lakki Marwat and Karak districts. He added that police seized the motorcycle used in the attack and recovered two pistols from the accused.

Cantonment police registered murder case against the arrested men, who admitted during interrogation they had been paid money for killing the doctor.

The DPO said that further investigations were in progress.

He said that both the accused told police that they had been paid huge amount by the rivals of the doctor.

Mr Mehmood said that the deceased belonged to Shewa area of Waziristan district. He said that the incident was result of old enmity. The body of the doctor was dispatched to his native town after autopsy where he was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard.

Meanwhile, police arrested an Afghan impersonating as a policeman and recovered from him fake identity card and money taken as bribe from the people for settling their disputes by using his authority.

DSP Sanober Shah Khan told journalists that they had been receiving complaints about an Afghan man, Malik Awal Khan, who posed himself as a police official and deciding disputes of the people on payment of money.

He said police raided Ghamkol Afghan refugee camp and arrested Malik Awal Khan. He said that police recovered from him a fake police card, money taken from a man identified as Mohammad Yousaf, and identity cards of scores of Afghan refugees. He was shifted to Jungalkhel police station for interrogation.

During initial interrogation, he confessed to his illegal activities after which a case was registered against him.
