LAYYAH: District education officials have imposed fines on private schools violating summer vacation orders of the government.

The government announced summer vacations in public and private schools from May 17 till Aug 10 through a notification. Though public schools have been closed since May 17 but a majority of the private schools remained open due to their internal examination schedule.

Recently, the chief executive officer of the Layyah District Education Authority issued warning to private school owners on the complaints of the parents and established 50 monitoring teams in three Layyah, Karor and Choubara tehsils.

These teams visited schools and imposed a Rs200,000 fine on the Spirit Public School and Rs100,000 on Punjab School Chowk Azam. The team also issued a warning to the British Public School.

Deputy District Education Officer Ghulam Yasin Chishti told Dawn the authorities would strictly enforce the orders of the government regarding summer vacations in private and public schools. The schools violating the orders risk cancellation of registration.

NAB: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) additional director, Multan region, has summoned PML-N MPA Qaisar Magsi for alleged illegal allottment of agricultural land in Choubara.

Karam Hussain, of mauza Nawan Kot, moved the senior member of the Board of Revenue and the Multan NAB region stating that “the MPA got allotted 1,600 kanals in mauza Nawankot. The land was allotted to Qaisar Abbas, his brothers Nasir Abbas and Mazhar Abbas and sisters Muazzam Bibi and Aqeela Bibi”.

Stating the history of the land, the application reads that the agricultural land of khata numbers 264, 294 and 491 of mauza Nawankot was transferred through mutation number 4,326 on March 10, 1987 in the name of Nazeer Ahmed.

Similarly, mutation numbers 4,327, 4,363 and 4,308 were passed on Aug 19, 1987, March 10, 1987 and March 10, 1987 in the name of Basheer Ahmed.

The applicant states that the Lahore High Court, Multan bench, passed a verdict in a writ petition number 545/1987 on March 5, 1988, cancelling the auction of these agricultural lots and the Choubara assistant commissioner cancelled the mutations on Sept 1, 2004, and consequently the land was confiscated by the government.

The applicant states that by using his political influence, MPA Magsi got transferred land of khata number 264, 294 and 491 through mutation numbers 1,1705 to 1,1718, 1,1720 and 1,1735 on March 9, 2004 in the name of his father Lal Khan Magsi. The applicant says that each 100 kanals was sold to Lal Magsi by the government at a throwaway prices of Rs2,850 per kanal.

The applicant states that the owners of the land were Basheer Ahmed and Nazeer Ahmed Kahloon on June 9, 2004, and the land was withdrawn from their name on September 1, 2004 so the land could not be transferred to Lal Husain on March 9, 2004, which is a serious neglect of revenue authorities.

The NAB additional director has summoned Mr Magsi on Wednesday.

Magsi was elected MPA on a PML-N ticket and recently joined the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

Mr Magsi said the land was adjusted and allotted through an open auction to his father which was later transferred to his children after his death.

“We’ve committed no wrong and I will face all the charges as I have committed no such crime,” he told Dawn.
