SIALKOT: Dr Munib Iqbal, the grandson of Allama Iqbal, has called for bringing about ‘purity’ and betterment in the democratic system to make the country as was envisioned by the Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal.

He says true democracy is vital for the national development and prosperity.

He was addressing the participants in a seminar on Iqbaliyat at the University of Gujrat, Sialkot Campus, on Monday.

Mr Munib said the nature had blessed Pakistan with all the natural resources and proper and best use of the available natural resources could make the nation prosperous.

UoG Sialkot Campus chief executive officer Rehan Younas paid tributes to Allama Iqbal, saying the campus was holding ‘Iqbal week’ in which contests of the Kalam-i-Iqbal, speeches on Iqbaliyat and tableaus would be held.

Kaleem Raza, director Students Affairs and experts of Iqbaliyat, Prof Ejaz Butt, Syed Riaz Hussain Naqvi (caretaker of Iqbal Manzil), Prof Islam Butt, Roma Shehzadi and Rana Babar Suhail also spoke.

Munib Iqbal distributed “Kuliyaat-i-Iqbal” among the outstanding students.

Later, he inaugurated ‘Iqbal week’ by cutting a cake to celebrate the upcoming birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal.

He also opened the exhibition of old and rare pictures of Iqbal, his family and the members of the Pakistan Movement on the campus.

He also addressed a ceremony held at Iqbal Manzil under the auspices of Bazm-i-Iqbal.

ASF: The Airport Security Force (ASF) seized a 39-bore pistol from a passenger, Ijaz Mehmood, who was going to Qatar at Sialkot International Airport.

ASF Additional Director Sialkot Nazir Ahmed Awan identified the suspect as Ijaz Ahmed, a resident of Gujranwala, who was going to Doha through the Qatar Airways when the ASF found pistol in his possession during checking.

The suspect was handed over to the police who registered a case against him.
