Reham signs divorce papers, refutes allegations against her

KARACHI: Reham Khan announced on Saturday that she has signed her divorce papers, thus officially ending her marriage with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan.

In a statement issued from London, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, Reham cited ‘a breakdown in relationship’ as the reason that led them to part ways.

Reham said the decision to take divorce from Imran was taken before she left for England, saying “it was best to part ways so our work commitments were not affected by our personal problems”.

She, however, criticised and condemned the media for acting unbecomingly, as it levelled baseless accusations regarding the divorce and behaved out of accord.

“The quest for ratings and misogynistic witch hunt is shameful,” she maintained.

While responding to the allegations, Reham said that reports of her receiving Rs50 million from Aleem Khan and Rs80 million from Faisal Vawda are false.

“The allegation of any physical violence is not only pure fiction but ludicrous,” she added.

Reham also denied media reports related to someone trying to poison Imran, saying “no stomach washing was ever carried out”.

While sharing her future plans, Reham announced to continue working on issues related to child protection and other projects and causes that are dear to her.

Earlier this week, the PTI had also rubbished the reports doing the rounds on local television channels and said that “Reham Khan had not hit Imran Khan”.

The official response by Shireen Mazari, the spokesperson for PTI chairman Imran Khan, came after local television channels reported that there may have been a physical altercation between the couple.

Mazari had expressed regret "at the manner in which malicious rumours are being given out regarding the breakup of Chairman Khan's marriage to Reham Khan."

PTI Chairman Imran Khan and TV journalist Reham Khan had divorced with mutual consent last week after 10 months of marriage, stirring chatter on news channels and on social media.

The two remained one of Pakistan's most-talked-about couples throughout their marriage and even after their divorce.

Imran Khan set the example for us by this divorce , although divorce is socially not acceptable in Pak , however urbanization are having divorce in it naturally. So our people can learn how to peacefully and respectfully do get parts away , Most of the time in Pak such cause turn violent and bring even murder kind of crime.

Imran should have focused mostly on politics post dharna rather than getting married. Politicians don't truly have private lives as they are supposed to lead the public. Personal turmoil affects their ability to lead.

I am an Indian, and I have seen Ms.Reham Khan only on The Reham Khan show, and in some interviews on TV, besides reading a bit about her life prior to marrying Mr. Imran Khan. First of all she had already been divorced from her previous husband and did not get divorced to marry Imran Khan as maliciously rumored in some of the media. My impressions about this exceptionally talented and brave lady are all A-1 positive, and I am saddened by her being maligned unnecessarily by everyone and his brother-in-law. She comes across as a stellar lady with a lot of courage and fortitude, very articulate and compassionate, just a lovable gorgeous lady anyone would be proud to have as a sister, daughter, mother or wife. Only the two concerned parties know what really happened within their marriage and that is strictly their business. I wish this wonderful lady all the luck in the world and doff my hat to her.

They both are ambitious very dedicated to their respective causes - hard to make a family, when you are in fact, already married to your profession - be it politics or issues related to child protection. My advise to both of them is - ignore the media - adapt the attitude of "I don't care" and carry on living your lives on your terms. It should matter not to either of you, of what people say about you, because when people gossip, it defines them and not you!

While I don't believe the media completely, violence against senior citizens is highly despicable. After giving so much to the country, the dignity of senior citizens must be protected. I hope Reham has acted appropriately with Khan,and not resorted to any violence.
