Reham Khan did not hit Imran, PTI clarifies

ISLAMABAD: Rubbishing reports doing the rounds on local television channels, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) said that Reham Khan had not hit Imran Khan.

The official response by Shireen Mazari, the spokesperson for PTI chairman Imran Khan, came after local television channels reported that there may have been a physical altercation between the couple.

Imran Khan and TV journalist Reham Khan had divorced with mutual consent last week after 10 months of marriage, stirring chatter on news channels and on social media. The two had remained one of Pakistan's most-talked-about couples throughout their marriage and even after their divorce.

Mazari expressed regret "at the manner in which malicious rumours are being given out regarding the breakup of Chairman Khan's marriage to Reham Khan."

The party chairman's spokesperson stated the following facts on behalf of Imran Khan:

  • All stories of vast monetary settlements made to Reham Khan are absolutely false and lies deliberately being floated to target Imran Khan and Reham Khan

  • All stories of Reham Khan hitting Imran Khan are absolute lies — the product of a vicious mind

  • No PTI leader was privy to either discussions of Khan's marriage nor of the divorce. Accusations of party leaders being a cause of the divorce are fabrications. The party leadership has always kept out of the Chairman's personal affairs and continues to do so.

Mazari concluded the statement by saying that it is unfortunate that the media is floating rumours and conjectures about the divorce of Imran Khan and Reham Khan at a time when both are going through a difficult personal time as are their families, especially their children.

The divorce announcement last week had stirred a fiery debate on social media, with fans and naysayers of both Khan and Reham posting their two cents and taking sides.

Earlier this week, while addressing the International Media Conference in Manchester Reham had made her first public appearance after news of her split.

She raised the point that Pakistani media did not follow important issues as big news barely survived a day before being swept aside. She complained that the media also focused on negativity, sidelining positive news.

The former anchorperson also said she believed one's personal life should be kept private.

Imran Khan has been loud ridiculing people from the Container to the People of Pakistan. He never failed to insult others and that in public too. Now it is on him as he himself has invited this mess when he announced his Marriage from the Container. He invited the press to his Wedding and He and His Wife had several interviews in their Luxurious Home. Now he is complaining and scolding grown men in public when they ask a simple question. This all shows what a confused person he is more over he thinks he can dictate every thing around him in his terms.

IK should handle this issue in person. Why party statements are coming and not personal statement by IK? It is the lowest level of IK. He could not justify his acts.

Reham khan made a comment in her speech that anyone can hit a six but making a century is an achievement. She also mentioned that personal relationship need to be groomed and everybody in Pakistan likes Kaptaan. No one forced her to make these comments but this shows that IK in her opinion is too aggressive and lacks patience but everybody is aware of this and there is nothing new in this statement. I think his poor performance in local elections has affected his marriage.

Imran Khan will always be loved and respected by Pakistanis, for he is the one, who has talked about empowerment of poor people of Pakistan after Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He has been practically struggling to unite Pakistanis on one platform without denying their historical identities as being proud Punjabis, Sindhis, Balochis and Puhstoons, and it is for this reason, that after Puhstoons, Sindhis and Balochis are also ready to accept him as a true leader from Punjab. He opposes construction of Kalabagh Dam, which is collectively rejected by all three provinces, except Punjab, and strongly opposes the division of Sindh on whatsoever ground, as propagated and ill-conceived by MQM. Let us join hands and strengthen the struggle of Imran Khan to transform Pakistan into a new modern state, where being Pakistani should be a source of our pride.

When you are a public figure, your personal life becomes of public interest. To dampen that interest IK and RK should face the media and answer all the questions if they do not violate marital privacy.

By going public with this so-called 'denial', PTI have in fact lent credibility to the accusations. Only a couple of days ago when a journalist asked IK about the divorce, he said that he doesn't discuss his personal business in public. And now this comes out. Very bizarre.

@Rajendra Tiwari People in Pakistan like Imran Khan are very hypocritical. They demand privacy when it suits them but love to intrude on others when in suits them. All over the world a public figure is held to higher account and scrutinized on everything. Imran Khan thinks he is special so he doesn't have to account for anything. He thinks he is a special politician who shouldn't be asked personal questions like they always do in Western countries.

This process of statement and denial or re clarification should stop completely and immediately. We have much larger issues to deal with. Imran khan needs to translate his world cup victory skills to running his party on the pattern of great successful movement in history. He needs to revisit his approach. Tharna way didn't work, he needs to evolve into a more grass root level movement where he needs to work out something like what new Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did.

Ms Mazari both families are suffering. You are so correct, ask Imran how his demeaning and disrespectful words about other leaders affects the feelings of others. IK and other party leaders have always carried an air of PTI as a pious party and you think you have the right to say anything, and when the critics are talking about you it becomes bad. IK including party leaders have hurt more people emotionally, IK's choice of words in his speeches and the mentality of dharna politics is going to bring down the party soon.

There is news in the Indian media that Pakistan security agencies warned Imran he would be poisoned. That would be most unfortunate for someone so driven and honest in his efforts to make Pakistan better. Wish him good health and long life. Greed does know no bounds if this news is indeed true.

Managing personal relationship is difficult at the best of times among ordinary folk. This is a case of two exceptional and strong personalities both previously in relationships that didn't work out. It must have been exceptionally difficult for both of them. And being public figures in essentially a very conservative and somewhat backward society leads to rumors, gossip and conspiracy theories. Neither is to blame or applauded. These things happen to the best of us. Let them find their own path in their remaining life. And good wishes to their children from their earlier marriages. They need to be left alone and at peace to find stability and happiness.

Since its against the law to discharge industrial waste and raw sewerage in the canal but people have ignored the law because lack of enforcement of the relevant laws. This has affected the lives of the people living in the surrounding communities and some have lost their lives and loss of livestock. Now why the government has to clean up the canal at its own expense while people responsible for this mess are released from their civic duty. I believe the responsible parties should be accountable for their actions and should pay for the cleanup. If it was another country, they would have been fined and also made to compensate for the clean up costs. The builders who built colonies close to the canals made millions, violated the laws by discharging raw sewerage in the public water way can afford to pay for the clean up.

She is too small a person to hit on Imran Khan. This is the best thing that could possibly happen to Imran Khan's personal and political career. I am a big critique of PTI and Imran Khan's politics but his cricketing achievements and cancer hospital is appreciable and someone like Reham Khan has no match to Imran Khan.

Imran khan is simply facing the music now. Khan sahab ! Time is a bad master. This is not a personal matter. You are a leader and u have to be a role modle.Leaders do not have personal lives,when they are themselves public everything has to be public. The scandal of monica lewinsky and George W.Bush was not a personal matter? was that not brought into public , YES IT WAS. If this was a personal matter,why did she appear in dozens of morning shows alon with Imran Khan? Why did Imran khan had to call media to his home in Bani Gala and doa complete show, telling how she cooks and stuff like that . This is not personal issue or even if it was IK himself made him public. I felt pity when a person who was abusing every single individual belonging to his rival political party,could not answer a question to a journalist and had to leave press conference.

after seeing our tv programs for last 3 days it seems we have one issue: IK and RK divorce.... what madness is this ?. just forgive them both for marrying and divorcing. we have more important and immediate attention seeking issues in hand. no one really knows as to what happened to those unfortunate people who are still buried under scrap of the building collapsed in Lahore.... what next for quake effectees ? many more... if its not for print media, I though IK/RK divorce may become a global issue.

I pity the poor people who are spreading this gossip! Just imagine how empty their lives must be, how sad their own relationships must be, in order to think of such rumors. Personally, I don't think it is any of our business, what happens in other people's lives. We have our own adventures to worry about - let us get our own house in order, before we worry about others - for that matter, let us not worry about others at all - just enjoy the blessings of Almighty, if our lives are perfect!

We can not believe in PTI spokesperson claims because they have always proved to be wrong in the past. IK denied his marriage news and and then also denied that there were differences between him and Reham Khan. So we can not trust them now.

You know women is always treated as a toy in our culture. People like them for some of their qualities which are known to the whole world and then reject and throw them with simple three divorces like tissue paper in the dustbin claiming that they have no match with us. Remember a woman status goes with her husband for which she is called her Mrs.

Imran Khan and Reham Khan are a dream couple, they will mutually resolve their domestic issues, and we proud Pakistani nation are generous to respect their privacy. we acknowledge every Pakistani couple including Media Anchors who are induging in private lives of IK and RK may have their domestic issues as well. We pray they withdraw their divorce notices during waiting period. Ameen summa Ameen.

What's a personal issue or not and privacy is requested for self, family and children is one's prerogative. It's not Media Anchors to decide what's some one's personal life. Our Media Anchors most of them with domestic violence leads and spouse-beaters are calling shots at IK-RK domestic issue, they need to learn journalist decency, as Haroon Rahid and Hassan Nisar are so graceful.
